 that self-service should extend beyond AI chatbots and instead focus on reducing user burden through workflow simplification, improved usability, automation, and stronger integration across existing tools and processes. Members highlighted challenges with
 current workflows, particularly around CEDAR and metadata submission, and advocated for human-centered design approaches that make processes more intuitive, scalable, and less dependent on user support. There was broad agreement that the most effective solutions
 will reduce the need for manual data entry and leverage existing information to generate, validate, or recommend metadata next steps automatically. The discussion also underscored the importance of supporting secondary data reuse by improving dataset quality
 indicators, contextual documentation, and harmonization support. Participants noted that discovering data is often less challenging than determining whether it can be effectively reused, citing the need for information about missing data, protocol changes,
 and study limitations. AI was viewed as a promising tool for metadata validation, dataset discovery, harmonization, and workflow guidance, particularly when layered onto existing platforms and services. Overall, the discussion highlighted opportunities to
 improve the usability, scalability, and interoperability of current tools and processes while reducing burden for both data contributors and data users.</div>

 from her experience conducting secondary analysis of large-scale population health datasets.</div>

 emphasized interoperability and reuse potential—especially the ability to link, combine, and “re-mix” datasets across systems—as the strongest indicator of value, alongside high-quality documentation (e.g., clear variable definitions, missingness rationale,
 collection methods, and study constraints) and technical usability, including AI- and ML-readiness. The group highlighted that value varies by use case (e.g., training, clinical trials, disparities research, implementation science), and that datasets gain
 importance when they support question generation, secondary analysis, or scaling insights. There was also recognition that rare or difficult-to-reproduce datasets (e.g., specialized biological or longitudinal administrative data) may be inherently high value
 even if imperfect, and that support is often needed to enhance curation, standardization, and alignment beyond what primary study teams can feasibly deliver.</div>

 would be a good way to get people using the data and tools (HEAL Data Platform and HEAL Semantic Search). We have to look at the data to find questions that could be answered. Pilot grants for students/fellows could also get people using the data.&nbsp;</div>

 could provide an opportunity to reach a broader audience, specifically AHSR, Joint Statistical Meetings of the American Statistical Association, USASP, CPDD, ASAM, SMB, and ACCJH. Members suggested a newsletter to inform stakeholders about new data sets and
 the tools and resources available to support data reuse.</div>

Collective Board Meeting Summary: The board discussed ideas for further increasing the usability and value proposition of HEAL Semantic Search (HSS). In response to the UI improvements in the new release, one member said, “this is so much better. You guys have
 done great.” At the same time, they felt more data is needed in the HEAL Data Ecosystem for HSS to reach its potential. There was interest in how HSS ranks search results, and the conversation included the idea of ranking higher the studies using CDEs, providing
 users with a relative score on how well each result correlates to the search term, and providing options to view results through a particular lens. The Stewards collected many suggestions for general improvements including opening a new tab rather than navigating
 away from the HSS tool, adding a “Data Available!” logo to studies for which data is accessible, and offering users a sample search to make it easy to get started with a positive search experience.</div>
